PEERS of the EUP was formerly Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie. We were contacted by Big Brothers Big Sister of America and requested that we change our name as we are infringing upon their registered marks, as well as rights granted exclusively to BBBSA by Congress.   As a consequence of the exclusive rights granted to BBBSA by Congress and pursuant to its numerous existing registrations and common law rights, no other organization may use these terms, or confusingly similar variations of them.

It was our desire to change our name, but not to change our mission:   To help children become responsible adults by matching them in one to one relationships with volunteer mentors who create a positive, lasting impact by sharing their friendship, guidance and support. 

As we move forward to seek a new name we will also continue our vision:  To provide a successful mentoring relationship for all children who need and want one, contributing to brighter futures with a lifelong sense of community and belonging.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Inc. is a member agency of the United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula.  With a new name and a bright future in our community we will march forward and “Live United”.
